Wired covers the Red One camera used to film the skateboarding footage linked to earlier on this blog. (if you haven’t seen the skateboarding footage, its in this article as well.) Awesome.

This photo is hilarious. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and veteran musician David Byrne, in a Wired article on the Real Value of Music (photo by Wired’s James Day). Somehow this is an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Dilworth.

“The essence of good design is knowing when not to add complexity, and Bungie nails that with this game.”

Facinating article in Wired magazine called Halo 3: How Microsoft Labs Invented a New Science of Play. Wired takes a close look at Bungie Studios, the makers of the massively huge Halo video game series, and how the Microsoft-owned company utilizes state of the art usability labs to test their video games. It appears Bungie is following some principles of the agile software development methodology, with constant revision and tweaking in response to an extremely detailed look into how players move through the game. It’s obvious the games would be nothing if not tested this way. Pretty interesting look into how video games are designed and refined.

The technology was developed as a Ph.D. project by music technology researchers at Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University.

Anyone paying attention to the new Wired.com designs? They’ve changed it up quite a bit in recent weeks, responding to user feedback (read: horror) and trying some new things. Lame “BETA” tag on the site too. My take: I love the site above the fold, but the massive list of Wired blog posts (based on Dave Winer’s River of News concept) is just plain ugly. This screen shot puts it into perspective.
